How the State originated  is best explained by Franz Oppenheimer&#8217;s book, <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.org\/details\/stateitshistory00oppegoog\">The State<\/a> (1914). \n<p><\/p><p>A few years ago, James Scott came up with a book describing how people all over the world have tried to escape the State.  The book is: <a href=\"https:\/\/libcom.org\/files\/Art.pdf\">The Art of Not Being Governed: An Anarchist History of Upland Southeast Asia<\/a> (2009). Although it focuses on an area of Asia, it does mention other places where people have fled from the State.
